Skills
Leadership
At Gator Wesley Foundation, I took on leadership roles that involved facilitating events and guiding small group discussions. I was responsible for organizing a weekend retreat, coordinating logistics for events, and ensuring a welcoming and engaging environment for participants. I collaborated with other leaders to plan activities, delegated responsibilities to team members, and addressed any challenges as they arose. I also facilitated group discussions to foster deeper connections among participants. These experiences reinforced my ability to lead with intention and adapt to dynamic situations.
Critical & Analytical Thinking
As part of my research at the University of Florida, I worked on projects analyzing complex biological and mechanical data to improve agricultural systems. My goal was to evaluate experimental data and develop models to optimize resource efficiency in agricultural practices and engineering design. Using tools like Python and Solidworks, I processed and analyzed datasets, created predictive models and tested 3D simulations. My research contributed to the advancement of technological development in agriculture and honed my ability to approach problems critically and analytically.
Cultural Awareness
During my study abroad in Valparaíso, Chile, I had the unique opportunity to live with a host family, immersing myself in Chilean culture and daily life. I sought to build meaningful connections with my host family while navigating cultural differences and adapting to a new way of living. I engaged in daily conversations with my host family, participated in local traditions and celebrations, and approached every interaction with curiosity and respect. This experience enhanced my cultural awareness and adaptability, providing me with a deeper understanding of Chilean values and perspectives.
Communication Skills
During my study abroad program in Panama, I participated in a multidisciplinary course exploring the engineering, cultural, and environmental impacts of the Panama Canal. I aimed to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from different cultural and professional backgrounds to develop a comprehensive perspective on Panama's cultural landscape. I participated in discussions with Panamanian students, asked thoughtful questions during company visits, and actively engaged in cultural tours to better understand the interplay between local traditions and history with modern development. These experiences refined my ability to adapt my communication style in two languages, ensuring clarity and respect in cross-cultural interactions.
